Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Of all of the excellent attractions the island of Hawaii has to offer, the island is probably most well known for its volcanoes. And if that is exactly what you are going to Hawaii to look for, then the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is the place to go. Established in 1916, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a United States National Park that has also been designated as an International Biosphere Reserve in 1980 and a World Heritage Site in 1987. This beautiful park displays the results of hundreds of thousands of years of the might destructive and creative nature of volcanoes.

The park is home to several major volcanoes including Mauna Loa and Kilauea, which is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Located on over 520 square miles of land, the park is a popular destination for hiking and camping opportunities. Here you will find not only the desolate lava fields, but also lush tropical rain forests. Some of the major attractions in the park include the Thurston Lava Tube, which is a 540 year old lava tube with a short hiking trail running through it, the Kilauea Caldera, the Volcano House Hotel, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, and the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum.
